Wisdom Teeth Removal

Illustration of wisdom teethWisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt on either side of your upper and lower jaw. Wisdom teeth usually emerge through the gums properly aligned, requiring no treatment to be taken. Occasionally, the jaw is not large enough to provide the required space for the teeth to (partially) emerge, which can cause dental problems.

How to Know If Your Wisdom Teeth Should Be Removed

Wisdom teeth may need to be removed if they become impacted, growing sideways into the neighbouring tooth. This problem can cause your teeth to crowd, pushing them out of alignment, affecting both the teeth’s functionality and aesthetics. Wisdom teeth may also require removal when they only partially emerge, creating a pocket in the gum. This can make them susceptible to bacteria buildup, leading to recurrent, painful infections and possible gum disease.

Keeping You Comfortable

Wisdom teeth can be removed one at a time using local anaesthetics or all four at once under general anaesthetics in hospital. The option that best suits you will depend on the problem and subsequent number of wisdom teeth requiring removal.

The expert dental team at Dapto Cosmetic and Family Dental will thoroughly assess any problems with your wisdom teeth and advise you on the best treatment moving forward.
