Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth are your third molars and the last teeth to erupt on either side of your upper and lower jaw. Usually wisdom teeth emerge through the gums properly aligned requiring no treatment to be taken. Occasionally however, the jaw is not large enough to provide the required space for the teeth to emerge, or the wisdom teeth only partially emerge, which can cause dental problems.
Wisdom teeth may need to be removed if they become impacted, growing sideways into the neighbouring tooth. This painful problem can cause your teeth to crowd, pushing them out of alignment affecting both the teeth’s functionality and aesthetics. Wisdom teeth may also require removal when they only partially emerge creating a pocket in the gum which is susceptible to bacteria build-up, leading to recurrent, painful infections and possible gum disease.
Wisdom teeth can be removed one at a time in the dental practice using local anaesthetic or all four at once under general anaesthetic in hospital. The option that best suits you will depend on the problem and subsequent number of wisdom teeth that require removal.
The team at Dapto will thoroughly assess any problems with wisdom teeth and advise you on the best treatment options for you.
