Dentures
One of the most widely used replacements for missing teeth is dentures. Two types of dentures exist, complete dentures and partial dentures. Complete dentures are held in place by adhesive gel and suction. They are used to replace an entire upper or lower arch, or both. Partial dentures however, are used to fill the space left by a number of missing teeth. This prevents the remaining teeth from shifting out of alignment. Partial dentures are attached to the surrounding teeth by small clasps.
All dentures are custom made specifically to your mouth. A detailed mould is taken of your gum line contour, and remaining teeth in the case of a partial denture. It generally takes four or five visits to create the dentures, from the initial comprehensive assessment through to final completion and fitting of the denture.
Both complete and partial dentures should remain stable in your mouth at all times. If they become loose or slip when you speak, cough or chew, a re-alignment is required. This can be completed in a single visit.
